The Japanese Popstars are set for the summer of their young lives. Now signed to Virgin Records, the Northern Irish trio are putting the finishing touches to their eagerly awaited second album. ‘Destroy EP’ is the taster, a sonic appetiser that sees them joined by Jon Spencer (he of the Blues Explosion).
 
Hailed as the rightful heirs to Underworld, Leftfield, The Chemical Brothers, and Orbital, The Japanese Popstars’ debut album, ‘We Just Are’ was championed by The Guardian, Word, Artrocker, NME, Clash, Popjustice, Mixmag, DJ, Radio 1, XFM, and beyond. The singles earned the support from the likes of Pete Tong, Soulwax, Benny Benassi, Zane Lowe and the rest of the electronic elite.
 
The last 18 months has seen Decky, Gary, and Galo tour the globe, their incendiary live shows have taken in Glastonbury, Ultra Festival, Fabric, Rockness, Fuji Rock, Planet Love (supporting the Prodigy), Matter, Warehouse Project, and far beyond. In the process, their cult following has grown into a formidable army of worldwide fans.
 
Recent gigs have included Radio 1’s In New Music We Trust live event and a series of parties at the Winter Music Conference. This summer’s festivals include Bestival, Creamfields, Parklife, Reading, Leeds, Benicassim, and Rockness, plus they’ll be supporting Tiesto and Pendulum in Victoria Park in London on 30 July, and headlining Club NME at Koko on 18 June.
